Civil Air Patrol Supports JBMDL Airshow

JOINT BASE MCGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST, N.J. (JUNE 10, 2025)— Civil Air Patrol’s New Jersey Wing proudly provided volunteer support during the recently held Power in the Pines Airshow at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst. The event, which featured the renowned U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, drew thousands of attendees from across the region.

More than 70 Civil Air Patrol cadets and adult members participated in event operations and public engagement throughout the weekend. CAP volunteers played a vital role in managing static displays, assisting with logistics and sharing information about the organization with the public.

"Events like this are an incredible opportunity for our members to serve their community while highlighting CAP’s three primary missions—emergency services, aerospace education and cadet programs," said Lt Col Michael Castania, Director of Aerospace Education. He staffed the CAP information booth and spoke with hundreds of educators and community members. He also promoted CAP’s aerospace education offerings, explaining that teacher-members may be eligible to receive a free flight simulator for their schools.

At the CAP Cessna 182 static display — an aircraft used for cadet orientation flights — Maj Wasim Baig, Director of Operations, introduced many families to Civil Air Patrol’s cadet program. "One of the most exciting opportunities for new cadets is taking an orientation flight in this aircraft," he told prospective members.

Civil Air Patrol cadets were also assigned to several U.S. Air Force static displays, including the KC-46 Pegasus, C-47 Skytrain, UH-60 Black Hawk, and the C-17 Globemaster III, where they supported public engagement and helped explain the role of these aircraft in national defense.

Col Amy Myzie, Commander of the New Jersey Wing, praised the dedication of CAP volunteers during the event. “Our members demonstrated outstanding professionalism and enthusiasm throughout the weekend. Their presence at Power in the Pines reflected the very best of Civil Air Patrol—service, learning and leadership. I couldn’t be prouder of how they represented our wing and engaged with the public.”

The Power in the Pines Airshow was a showcase of both aerial excellence and community service. For Civil Air Patrol, it was another opportunity to inspire the next generation of aviators, leaders, and volunteers.

Founded in 1941 and established as the official civilian auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force seven years later, Civil Air Patrol is chartered by Congress as a nonprofit organization for the purposes of youth development, aerospace education, and to promote general aviation. In an auxiliary role as a Total Force partner of the Air Force, CAP operates the world’s largest fleet of single-engine aircraft for search and rescue, disaster relief, training, and education. Civil Air Patrol is dedicated to serving America’s communities, saving lives and shaping futures.
