At Ease With the SEL: Vol. 1, No. 3
Fellow Members,
Welcome to another edition of At Ease. Take a breath, grab a cup of coffee, and let’s talk about the foundation of everything we do in the Civil Air Patrol.
Whether we are executing a critical search and rescue mission, mentoring the next generation of aerospace leaders, or representing the Air Force Auxiliary in our local communities, we rely on our training. But beneath the training, the uniforms, and the regulations lies something even more important: our Core Values.
Integrity, Volunteer Service, Excellence, and Respect. These are not just words printed on a recruiting poster or memorized for a promotion board. They are action verbs. They are the standard by which we measure ourselves and each other.
Let’s break down what it actually means to live these values every day:
|
Core Value |
What It Looks Like in Action |
|
Integrity |
Doing the right thing when absolutely no one is watching. It means being honest in your logs, owning up to a mistake during a training sortie, and holding the line on standards. Integrity is the currency of leadership; once spent, it is incredibly hard to earn back. |
|
Volunteer Service |
Giving your time, energy, and expertise to something greater than yourself. It is stepping up for that weekend bivouac, pulling an extra shift during an emergency, and remembering that our mission is about serving our communities, our state, and our nation without expecting a reward. |
|
Excellence |
Refusing to settle for "good enough." Excellence is a habit. It means keeping your uniform sharp, continuously improving your specialty track qualifications, and pushing yourself and your wingmen to perform at the highest possible level, every single time. |
|
Respect |
Treating every single member—from the newest Cadet Basic to the Wing Commander—with genuine dignity. It means listening to different perspectives, fostering an environment where everyone feels valued, and remembering that we are an all-volunteer team pulling in the same direction. |
When we actively live by Integrity, Volunteer Service, Excellence, and Respect, we are unstoppable. We become the leaders our communities need and the mentors our cadets deserve.
Keep up the outstanding work across the Wing. Stay sharp, stay safe, and always lead from the front.
Dismissed.
