Meet your new ~ NJWG Commander
Col Andrew Liput
Col. Andrew L. Liput was sworn in as the 24th Commander of the NJ Wing of the Civil Air Patrol on July 10, 2021. He is a three-generation CAP family member. Col Liput’s father, Andrew Liput Sr., served CAP in the Pennsylvania Wing during World War II as a submarine spotter in East Coast shipping lanes and was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal for his service. Col Liput’s daughter, Sloane Liput, was a member of the Picatinny Composite Squadron from 2015-2018 and achieved the rank of C/SMSGT before attending Rutgers University on a four-year ROTC scholarship.
Col. Liput has previously served at the squadron, wing, region, and national staff levels. He was a deputy commander of cadets, a deputy commander of seniors, and an interim squadron commander in New Jersey. He later served as a legal officer and government relations officer with the Connecticut Wing staff where he was honored to receive recognition as NER legal officer and government relations officer of the year on multiple occasions and was named national government relations officer of the year for 2020 by then CAP Commanding Officer Maj Gen Mark Smith. Col Liput also served with distinction on the Northeast Region Staff where he developed key strategic partnerships with the NFL Alumni Association and the national Law Enforcement Against Drugs organization to benefit cadet programs nationally, and on the CAP National Development Team Staff as partnerships and promotions coordinator.
Col Liput is a graduate of the National Legal Officers College and the National Emergency Services Academy where he earned aircrew specialty ratings as a mission scanner and airborne photographer. He also has earned a master rating in public affairs, senior ratings in command, legal affairs, and professional development, and a technician rating in cadet programs.
Col Liput is a trained planning section chief, ground branch director, public information officer, mission radio operator, mission staff assistant and is qualified in UDF.
He served as an instructor, planner, and facilitator for various professional development courses including Region Staff College and CAP Volunteer University, and has made formal presentations at CAP national conferences, NER conferences and wing conferences. He also served in staff support at the NJ Wing GSAR school and for Connecticut Wing encampments.
Col Liput has received numerous wing, region, and national awards, including multiple achievement awards, multiple commander’s commendations (including region and national) as well as the Civil Air Patrol Meritorious Service Award.
Col Liput is an honors graduate of Drew University in Madison, New Jersey where he studied economics and political science. He is also a graduate of Fordham Law School and has completed post-graduate studies in business and leadership studies at Wharton, NYU, Harvard University, Harvard Business School. He is currently enrolled in the Harvard Kennedy School of Government’s Public Leadership Program for government and public industry professionals studying ethics and leadership. He is a member of the state bar in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut and North Carolina, and is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court.
Col Liput is currently employed as the Founder, President and CEO of Secure Insight, a financial services FinTech company providing fraud prevention and cyber security defense services to banks nationwide. Prior to Secure Insight, Col Liput had been a corporate and banking attorney for more than 25 years. He is married with four daughters and lives in Hunterdon County, New Jersey.
