Editor: Capt Lynda Rosencrans NJWG Assistant PAO
Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, NJ – Each year the Civil Air Patrol awards cadets scholarships based on merit. There are two scholarship categories; academic and flight with several sub-categories in each area. This year, 695 cadets applied, an over 2% increase in applications from last year - and of those, 6 cadets from New Jersey wing were selected to receive scholarships.
Civil Air Patrol National Commander, Major General Mark Smith sent out letters of congratulations to all the recipients stating, “Judging by the competition, your accomplishments place you at the top of the best of the best. I am pleased that we, CAP, can honor you with a reward for a job well-done, which helps you achieve your future academic or aviation goals”.
The New Jersey Wing recipients are:
In the CAP Academic category:

New Jersey Wing with its impressive showing, tied with New York Wing, leading nationally in award recipients this year - and as a region, Northeast Region ranked second after Mid-Atlantic Region [19-21 respectively]. These are impressive numbers considering of the over 600 applications received, only about 95 scholarships were awarded nationally. New Jersey wing, Civil Air Patrol has a lot to be proud of. During the pandemic, members led the way in assisting with missions both on the ground and in the air and currently, they are assisting with vaccine transport. This competition is yet another example of the pride, vigilance, dedication, and caliber of the members of the wing.
